Assessing for Dyscalculia and Maths delays with a Dyscalculia Specialist
Ideal for schools, colleges, universities and workplace. Bring a dyscalculia specialist in-house and use the detailed report to gain the necessary support.
Target Audience:
SENCO/ALNCo, ASN, Teachers, Learning Support Teachers, Educational Pyschologists, Learning Support Centres and Adult Learning Centres.
Agenda:
Dyscalculia is a complex difficulty with making meanigful sense of numbers and applying the numbers confidently. The assessment is ideal for individuals who are not meeting age-related expectations, struggling with GCSE maths, feeling insecure with using numbers and data to make decisions in the workplace and in everyday life.
The assessment would, in the first instance, involves an interview with the individual and relevant stakeholders. This would be followed up with a dyscalculia assessment to determine if the individual is at risk of developmental dyscalculia. Where required, other tests of ability and attainment may be used. Our dyscalculia specialist will also assess the pupil’s difficulties through observation using structured activities. The session takes between two and three hours.
The assessment pinpoints individual differences, showing where the pupil’s strengths lie and the specific areas of difficulty. Our specialist follows this up with an optimal Individual Support Plan, Program of Work, a Functional Skills Measures report, written report and a follow-up session on how best to acquire and promote the necessary number and maths schools.
